The Mission of The National Quilt Museum leads us to honor and celebrate quilters and the quilts they have made. If you would like to help the museum continue and expand its work, there are many ways you can help. In addition to becoming a Friend of Museum to support general operations, you may wish to support to one of the museum's funds for specific areas or participate in one of the many events held throughout the year.

Friends of the Museum

The National Quilt Museum programming is made possible by generous annual donations from individuals and corporations throughout the world. Those donating $30 or more join the very special Friends of the Museum group and enjoy several benefits. Check out the Join/Renew page to learn more about becoming a Friend and donating on-line!

Friends Joining Friends

Next year, 2011, will be the 20th Anniversary of The National Quilt Museum. The museum is launching a new campaign, Friends Joining Friends, in 2010 to increase the museum’s circle of Friends by April 2011.

Friends who get a new friend to join will be recognized throughout the year. First, the museum is asking each current Friend of the Museum to continue or even increase their own Friend’s level this year. In addition each Friend is asked to recruit at least one new Friend to become a Friend of the Museum. In this way, the number of museum supporters can be doubled! Just have your friend place your name on the indicated line when becoming a Friend of the Museum.

The museum's Friend getting the most new friends to join by April 15, 2011, will receive a $100 gift card to the museum gift shop; in case of a tie, $50 gift cards will be awarded to each at the Friends Reception April 25, 2011.

Acquisitions Fund

The Museum's Collection of Quilts represents the best of the best in quilting since the quilt revival in 1980. The museum needs to continually grow the collection to maintain the level of contemporary excellence for which its reputation is based. The Acquisitions Fund enables the museum to purchase works by today's leading artists, preserving the techniques and materials used by contemporary quilters.

Donors who give at least $500 to the Acquisition Fund will receive a leather bound, first edition copy of the book featuring the Oh Wow! Miniature Quilt Collection. If you would like to make a major gift donation to The National Quilt Museum, contact the museum’s Executive Director May Louise Zumwalt at 270-442-8856, ext. 202 or mzumwalt@quiltmuseum.org.

You can also help the museum add to its collection through ArtCards for Acquisitions! Quilters are invited to create and donate 4" x 6" artcards to be sold in the Museum Shop with all proceeds benefiting the museum's Acquisitions Fund. Simply download the ArtCard Back and then send your creation to the museum!

Paul Pilgrim Fund

Paul Pilgrim was a strong supporter of all the museum's endeavors since the beginning. Together with Gerald Roy, Paul provided design assistance with the buildings interior space, served as curators for many important exhibits and worked to make this museum a top quality art institution.

As was his wish, contributions to the Paul Pilgrim Fund are used for enhancements to the museum's exhibit space. The growth of this fund is essential as features such as lighting and environmental controls continually need improvements and upgrades.

Patricia J. Morris Educational Fund

The Patricia J. Morris Educational Fund was established in 2003 in memory of the excellent writer, curator, teacher and judge of quilting. The Fund helps encourage quiltermakers to develop their skills through the educational opportunities available at The National Quilt Museum. Your donations to this fund are used for scholarships as well as the purchase of class supplies.

Annual Benefit Auctions

The National Quilt Museum wants you as a donor and a bidder for the Annual Benefit Auctions! Every year during the American Quilter's Society Show and Contest in Paducah, the museum hosts Silent and Live Auctions. The Silent Auctions offer two days of opportunities to bid on quilts, quilt-related books and tools, fabric and other artwork. Different items are auctioned each day! The Live Auction features approximately 70 quilts ranging from antique treasures to contemporary quilts by some of today’s most recognized quilters.

Interested in donating to the museum's auctions? Here are a few easy ways:

  • Start a round-robin quilt with your quilting friends. Then donate the finished product!
  • Clean your sewing room! Donate the fabric stashes you have been unable to use, books you do not use any more or even a UFO.
  • NEW for 2010! Guilds are challenged to put together the ultimate quilter's basket! Baskets can include goodies such as fabric, books, quilting tools and batting. The basket size must be at least 24" diameter. The guild who's basket sells for the most money in the Live Auction will win 10 FREE American Quilter's Society books for their library. Second highest will receive seven books, and third will receive five books. Of the baskets sold in the Silent Auction, first highest will win five books, and second highest will receive three books. The museum reserves the right to decide if items go in the Silent or Live Auctions.

When making a donation, please complete and submit the 2010 Donation Form. If you prefer to bring the donation to the Quilt Show to submit in person, please mail the form prior to your arrival so the donation can be pre-processed.

Celebration Quilt Sale

The National Quilt Museum will soon have a great opportunity for you to own works by quilters featured in the Museum’s Collection! Many of these quilters have donated wallhangings and miniature quilts to be sold with all proceeds benefiting the museum. These quilts are for sale in the museum’s lobby.

Adopt a Quilt

Have you ever wondered what details go into the care and conservation of a delicate collection of quilts? Now you can find out while sustaining the care of your favorite quilt in the Museum’s Collection!

The National Quilt Museum is initiating a program called Adopt a Quilt. Individuals, guilds and other civic organizations can make a donation of $250 for the care of a specific quilt in the Museum’s Collection. In return, the adoptee’s name will be posted beside their quilt when it is on exhibit in the museum’s gallery as well as be listed on the museum’s website. They will also receive an Adoption Certificate including an image and details of their quilt.

Contact Judy Schwender at jschwender@quiltmuseum.org or 270.442.8856, ext 210. The quilts are available on a first come, first select basis. No matter where you live, you can take part in this exciting new venture! So which quilt will you adopt?
